Calvary South Africa
LAUNCHING SUNDAY, 18 FEBRUARY 2018
Calvary is one church meeting in multiple locations. Under the leadership of Senior Pastors James and Samantha Macpherson, Calvary has grown to become a key church of influence across Australia and internationally.
James and Samantha took on leadership of Calvary in October 2007, overseeing the growth of the Townsville congregation as well as expansion into other cities.
Over the past ten years Calvary has expanded from Townsville to now have seven campuses across Queensland.
In February 2018 Calvary expands into South Africa, launching a campus in the coastal city of East London to be led by Dustan and Sarah Bell.
East London is located on the south-eastern coast of South Africa, about 1,000km east of Cape Town. Situated between the Buffalo and Nahoon Rivers, East London is the gateway to the Sunshine Coast to its south and the Wild Coast to its north.
The city is home to some 400,000 residents, with the wider metropolitan area hosting 1.4 million people, making East London the second largest city in the province of the Eastern Cape.
With its pleasant climate, pristine beaches, surf destinations, and access to world-class game reserves, East London has one of the fastest growing tourism sectors in South Africa.
East London is home to South Africa’s only river port and boasts a diverse economic base, with motor vehicle manufacturing, industrial and agricultural activity.
Since announcing the news of Calvary South Africa, many people across Calvary have expressed their desire to be involved in establishing our campus in East London. In 2018 you have the opportunity to play a key role in our campus launch, while experiencing all that South Africa has to offer. This experience is available to you through the East London Internship or via a short-term Mission Trip.
The East London Internship
The internship is a three-month program in which young adults from Australia work full-time on our Calvary East London team, playing a key role in the establishment of our first international campus. The internship package includes secure accommodation, flights, transport, internet, medical and travel insurance. On top of this, interns will enjoy downtime to visit Cape Town and see the sites of South Africa.
For students enrolled at Calvary Leadership College in 2018, as part of your internship you can study abroad by completing one term of classes with our CLC South Africa cohort. This means your study at Bible College won’t skip a beat and you’ll make lifelong friends with classmates in Africa.
In July 2018 join the team from Calvary Australia for two weeks of cross-cultural ministry, mission and fun in South Africa!
Experience two Sundays at Calvary East London, and mid week get involved in local ministry via community outreach projects and on campus initiatives at Fort Hare University. When the work is done, our team will travel home via Cape Town for a few days of sight-seeing, shopping and relaxation.
